Caspar Frantz, a native of Kiel, studied with Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit at the Rostock University of Music and completed his post-graduate chamber music studies with Professor Eberhard Feltz at the Hanns Eisler University, Berlin. He further received great support due to the intense artistic collaboration with Renate Kretschmar-Fischer, Ferenc Rados, Christoph Eschenbach, Andras Schiff, Elisabeth Leonskaja as well as György and Marta Kurtag.

Since his debut at the Rheingau Music Festival Caspar Frantz has played in Germany and abroad, at major Festivals such as Ravinia, Gstaad, Schleswig-Holstein, Septembre Musical Montreux, Festival de Pollenca, Beethoven Festival Bonn, IMS Prussia Cove and Festspiele Schwetzingen. He toured South Africa with the National Youth Orchestra of Germany and has also appeared with orchestras such as the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, the Iasi Moldova Philharmonic, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig and  Soloist Ensemble Kaleidoskop from Berlin. In 2010, Caspar Frantz played the world premiere of the c-minor Piano Concerto by Friedrich von Flotow, together with the MDR Orchestra Leipzig, conducted by Michael Sanderling.

He appeared in solo concerts, chamber music and solo recitals -among others- at the Philharmonie Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, Cadogan Hall London, Bennett Gordon Hall Ravinia, Gasteig Munich, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Kolarac Hall Belgrade, Seoul Arts Center, Centre Pompidou, Paris.

 

 

Caspar Frantz also is an ardent chamber music player. With cellist Julian Arp he has formed a duo for 20 years (the duo is 1.Prize Winner of the Mendelssohn Competition, the Premio Vittorio Gui, Firenze, as well as  the German Music Competition), and Chloe Hanslip, Rainer Kussmaul, Antje Weithaas, Ingo Goritzki, Sabine Meyer, Bryn Terfel, Anna Prohaska  and the Vogler String Quartet as well as members of the Deutsches Sinfonie Orchester,Berlin and  Berliner Philharmoniker are among his chamber music partners.

Moreover, Caspar Frantz has made recordings which had been highly acclaimed by the national and international press : Felix Mendelssohn's works for cello and piano as well as the Three Sonatas for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord by J.S.Bach, together with Cellist Julian Arp for GENUIN, further Piano Concertos by Joseph Haydn (together with Ensemble Kaleidoskop) and the Six French Suites by Johann Sebastian Bach for ARS Records. His latest recording features early and late solo works by Robert Schumann.From 2009 until 2013, Caspar Frantz was co-director of the ZEITKUNST Festival for contemporary Literature and Chamber Music in Berlin. Caspar Frantz has been a jury member several International Competitions, among them the Ishikawa Piano Competition 2019 and the Bachwettbewerb Leipzig 2022.

In March 2016 Caspar Frantz was chosen into the faculty of the  Music University "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig as Professor for piano chamber music.
